HACCP training opportunity for Tanzanian SMEs

The National Quality Association of Tanzania (NQAT). is expected to train Tanzanian honey businesses in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Belgian Development Agency (ENABEL) under the Beekeeping Value Chain Support (BEVAC) Programme.

The Programme is currently being implemented in Dodoma, Tabora, Singida, Shinyanga, Katavi, Kigoma and Pemba Island, under the auspice of the European Union.

BEVAC aims to improve the beekeeping value chain in Tanzania through enhanced quality production, value addition of bee products, strengthened trade, and greater access to local, regional, and international markets.

Through the quality and food safety component, the Programme aims to support honey businesses per the specified regions above in improving their food safety management system based on HACCP. This will be done by training, coaching, mentoring, and assisting the businesses in developing the system and how optimally they can implement it.

Selected honey businesses will be trained via groups under and in partnership with the National Quality Association of Tanzania (NQAT). This will help them to understand the HACCP system and how they can implement the system in their business. The gap analysis will be conducted after the company selection process and before the start of the training in order to identify differences between the current situation of the businesses and the desired future state and elaborate an action plan.
